How Executive Coaching Programs Work

With the growing popularity of coaching, there is now a wide range of executive coaching firms, as well as universities offering coaching programs at both undergraduate and postgraduate levels. Each brings its own unique style and methodology. At WINNERS-at-WORK, we follow a proven and personalized approach. Our executive coaching programs typically span several months and include six one-hour sessions. These sessions are primarily conducted face-to-face, though we increasingly offer virtual options via Zoom or Skype to accommodate the demanding schedules of executives. Both delivery methods have proven equally effective.

Executive Coaching: Our Approach

We often encourage executives and managers to complete a 360-degree feedback report before beginning the coaching process. At the conclusion of the program, a follow-up report is conducted. This provides a clear “before and after” snapshot of the leader’s development throughout the executive coaching journey. While not mandatory, this step is strongly recommended.

Most executive coaching firms tend to bypass this, but we believe it adds significant value. The 360-degree report helps identify a leader’s strengths and areas for growth, saving time and enhancing the credibility of the program.

Our Preferred Coaching Methodology

At WINNERS-at-WORK, we use the highly regarded G.R.O.W. model developed by Sir John Whitmore. GROW stands for:

  • Goal
  • Reality
  • Options
  • What next?

Each coaching session (typically one hour) follows a structured format:

  • Review what has happened since the previous session.
  • Explore new insights, strategies, and learning material.
  • Plan actionable next steps for application in the workplace.

The Goal phase focuses on identifying a desired future outcome.
In the Reality phase, we assess current challenges and obstacles.
The Options phase considers possible strategies or solutions.
The What next? phase sets out specific actions to move forward.

This structured, conversational approach differs significantly from many traditional coaching programs and ensures clarity, engagement, and results.
